I've been thinking a lot about the neighbors’ role in situations like Alleen and Kyle Hartlieb's tragedy. It must have been incredibly unsettling for them, hearing those gunshots in the early hours. I can't imagine the fear and confusion that must have followed. Often, people feel guilty for not acting, but how many times do we brush off strange noises as something mundane? They couldn't have known the gravity of what was happening next door. It's a stark reminder that sometimes even if something feels slightly off, a simple call to authorities might make a difference. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and neighbors who are left to process such an unfathomable incident.
