I’ve been thinking a lot about the tragic events surrounding King Douglas’s death, and what really strikes me is how easily firearms seem to find their way into the hands of kids. It’s unfathomable how a gun could be passed around among pre-teens like it’s not a deadly weapon. As a community, we need to seriously address this issue. How are these kids finding guns so easily? It just feels like we’re failing our youth when they’re exposed to such dangers at such a young age. Those dynamic peer influences really concern me too. Kids are impressionable, and the heat of an argument should never escalate to deadly violence. I just can’t stop thinking about what led up to that moment in the parking lot. How many layers of adult failure allowed it to get to that point? King’s family, especially his mother, must be going through unimaginable pain. It’s crucial for our community to rally behind them, not just with words, but with real change. I hope we can use this as a wake-up call to prevent another tragedy. For King’s sake, and for all the kids out there who deserve a safe childhood.
