I was reading about the tragic case of Officer Wade Patterson, and I can't stop thinking about the impact this must have had on his family and the whole Aiken community back in 1911. Losing someone like him, who dedicated 35 years of his life to keeping the town safe, must have been an overwhelming loss. It's horrifying to consider that something as simple as a warning about a dog could escalate to such violence. The fact that this involved the Seigler family, who were known in the area, probably complicated things even more, both legally and socially.
I also keep wondering what the long-term effect on his children might have been. Losing a parent is unimaginably tough, especially in such a public and violent way, and I really hope the community was able to support them and his wife during that time. It's just so sad that a dedicated officer like Patterson, who was just doing his job, had his life cut short in such a senseless manner.
