I've been thinking a lot about the impact that Deputy Alva's passing must have had on his partner. It’s such an unimaginable burden to carry, knowing a split-second action caused the loss of a colleague and friend. I can’t begin to imagine the guilt and trauma they must be dealing with, even years later. It’s clear from the investigation that it was a chaotic situation, and these quick decisions come with incredible pressure. I hope they’ve had support from the department and community all these years. It's a reminder of how crucial mental health resources are for first responders who face life-and-death situations every day. My heart goes out to Alva’s partner, and, of course, to Alva’s family, who lost such a dedicated and brave officer.
