I was really moved by the outpouring of support from the community for David's family. It's clear that he was loved deeply by those around him. His passing has left a lot of people questioning how things could have gone differently. It's unsettling to think about how a single moment can have such profound consequences. I saw a post mentioning that Hammer was "grossly intoxicated." I wonder how this aspect was handled during the investigation. Was it taken into account when deciding not to charge Jowers? It’s tragic to think about how impaired judgment on anyone's part might have changed the course of that night. It’s important for all of us to think through how alcohol can sometimes escalate situations that might otherwise not end in tragedy. I just hope that David's family can find some peace, even though that might seem impossible right now. It’s clear the pain from this event reaches beyond just those directly involved. My heart goes out to everyone affected.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the people who were close to David Hammer, especially his family. I can't imagine the pain they must feel over losing someone so young and full of potential. The report mentions that David was "grossly intoxicated," which seems to have played a big part in what happened that night. I wonder how different things might have been if he hadn’t been in that state. It’s just so hard to wrap my head around how quickly things can spiral out of control based on one night or one decision. I feel for Jowers too, honestly–being in a vulnerable state himself and having just had surgery, he might have felt like he had no other choice, but that’s the part about these laws that makes it so tough to swallow. The concept of self-defense is so complicated, especially when everyone involved is under stress or impaired in some way. I really hope that all of David’s loved ones can find some peace and that the community can come together to support them. It’s a tough time for everyone involved, that’s for sure.
