I've been reflecting on the impact of Deputy Derek Fish's passing, and it's just so tragic to see someone seemingly so full of life reach a point where they feel there are no options left. It makes me wonder about the pressures our law enforcement officers face daily. We often talk about PTSD in soldiers, but the constant stress in policing careers must weigh heavily, too.
I hope that through discussions with Fish's family and Sheriff Lott’s openness, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health in professions like his. It's crucial for departments to foster an environment where officers feel safe to ask for help. Does anyone know if there have been changes in protocols or services offered to officers in the area since his death? Or perhaps increased awareness initiatives for mental well-being? I truly hope that the community and fellow officers are finding ways to turn this terrible loss into something positive for future officers. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Deputy Fish.
