I can’t stop thinking about the impact Annette Riley's untimely death has had on her family and community. Losing a loved one is never easy, but I can't imagine the pain her children and grandchildren must feel after such a violent and senseless act. From everything I've read and heard, Annette sounded like a wonderful mother and grandmother, always putting her family first. It's truly tragic that someone like her was taken in this manner. During the trial, I was struck by how strong her family seemed, even when it must have been incredibly difficult to sit through the proceedings and relive the trauma. Being barred from speaking during sentencing because they were too emotional is completely understandable; it really speaks to the deep wound this crime left. I hope they can find some solace in the support of their community and knowing that justice was served. It doesn't replace what they've lost, but it seems like they have a lot of people - both locally and beyond - who are thinking of them and keeping Annette's memory alive. Gun violence seems so prevalent these days, and each case like this reminds us all of what’s truly at stake.
