I can't stop thinking about the incredible impact Rodney Gilmer had on the EMS community here in South Carolina. From what I've heard and read, he was one of those rare people who truly devoted his life to helping others. It's still so hard to wrap my head around the fact that someone who spent his life saving others was taken so tragically. I remember talking to a friend who worked alongside Rodney, and she spoke so highly of his ability to stay calm in the most intense situations. Given how many counties he worked in and how many people he must've helped during his career, it's no surprise that his loss is felt so deeply across the region. I hope that SLED can shed some light on what really happened that night. It's so important for Rodney's friends and family to get answers and some sense of closure, although nothing will ever replace the loss they're feeling. My thoughts are with all the first responders who knew him; I can't even imagine how difficult this must be for them.
