I’ve been following the Seward family tragedy and something that really stands out to me is how Jonathan’s mental health issues were mentioned but seemingly never adequately addressed. It’s deeply troubling to think about what might have been if he’d had more support or intervention. Mental health care is crucial, but it often feels like it falls through the cracks, especially for young adults like him. Knowing that Erica and her family were all loved members of their community just makes this loss feel even more profound. They deserved so much better, and this situation underscores how we need to be more proactive in understanding mental health signals and getting people the help they need. My heart goes out to the surviving members, John Jr. and Theresa, who have to cope with not only this incredible loss but also the lingering question of ‘why?’ We should all be more vigilant and compassionate to those around us who might be struggling. This is such a hard reminder that sometimes the signs are there, but they’re just not always easily visible to us. Hug your loved ones a little tighter today, everyone.
