I’ve been following this case for a while, and I can’t stop thinking about the role that technology, or lack thereof, played in Shonta Neely's tragic story. It really bothers me that Miller was able to remove his ankle monitor so easily. We rely on these devices to keep our communities safe and ensure that people who are out on bond are where they are supposed to be. But if a felon can just remove it and slip through the cracks so effortlessly, what’s the point? It makes me wonder how many other times this kind of negligence has led to further violence. My heart goes out to Shonta’s family and the other victims who had to suffer because of these system failings. Does anyone know if there’s been any push for improved measures to track offenders more effectively after this incident? It's so frustrating to see technology fail us when it matters the most.
