On January 16, 2017, 22-year-old Daxton E. Drake was shot and killed during a confrontation at a home on Rainbow Drive in Branson, Missouri. The encounter began as an interpersonal dispute tied to a romantic rivalry. Drake was in a bedroom with a female companion when another man, identified as Dakota Claypole, entered carrying a handgun.
Police say Claypole shouted at Drake and fired a warning shot. When Drake tried to stand, Claypole fired again, striking him multiple times. Claypole then fled the residence and took Drake’s vehicle; officers located and arrested him a few miles from the scene without further violence.
What details about the confrontation or the relationship between the men might help explain how the dispute escalated to lethal force?
