I came across some interesting information while reading about the tragic events surrounding Montrez Hughes and Eddie Wilkerson. Did anyone else see the news about the GPS ankle bracelet? It’s shocking, and honestly, a bit infuriating that Akeem Sims was wearing one at the time of the incident. This whole situation makes me wonder about the effectiveness of our current system in monitoring individuals who are out on bond. I mean, if the GPS data was able to place him at the scene, why couldn't this technology have been used more proactively to prevent such a horrible event? My heart goes out to Montrez’s family and friends, who must be frustrated not only by his awful loss but by the failures that may have led up to it. How can we better prevent these tragedies and ensure those with violent histories are really being monitored closely? It’s something I think the community and officials need to address seriously to prevent further loss in St. Louis.
