Najah Ferrell, a 30-year-old mother, was last seen on March 15, 2019, at her home in Avon, Indiana. She was preparing to leave for her new job at a Panera Bread for an early morning orientation shift. Security footage from her apartment complex showed her car leaving at approximately 3:00 a.m. Concern grew later that day when Najah, a dependable and devoted mother to her two sons and three foster children, failed to pick them up from school.
This was highly uncharacteristic of her, prompting her family to contact the authorities. Her fiancé also mentioned receiving a text from her that morning. The initial missing person report was filed with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, but due to jurisdictional issues, the case was transferred to the smaller Avon Police Department.
The investigation into Najah's disappearance began with searches of the area but yielded no immediate leads. A significant development occurred on March 26, 2019, when her black 2018 Nissan Altima was discovered abandoned in a shopping center parking lot in Indianapolis, not far from her place of work. Surveillance footage from the area showed an unidentified man parking her car around 5:05 a.m. on the morning she went missing and then getting into another vehicle. Shortly after the discovery of her car, some of Najah's personal belongings, including her ID and bank cards, were found discarded along Interstate 465. The case took a grim turn on April 8, 2019, when fishermen in Crown Point, Indiana, over 100 miles away from Avon, discovered a severed human foot in a retention pond.
The foot was preliminarily identified as belonging to Najah due to a distinctive tattoo. DNA analysis later confirmed the remains were indeed hers. The coroner determined that the foot had been severed after her death. Despite extensive searches of the pond and the surrounding area, no other remains were ever located. The discovery of her remains led authorities to classify her case as a death investigation. Years have passed since Najah Ferrell's disappearance and murder, and her case remains unsolved. The circumstances surrounding her death, including why her car was abandoned and her remains were found so far from home, are still a mystery.
