He has long brown hair that he often wore pulled back, blue eyes, and a Roman numeral tattoo on his left forearm. He was last seen wearing green pants and a blue flannel shirt. Two days after he was last seen, on August 29, Joel was officially reported as a missing person. Joel's family and friends became increasingly worried when he remained out of contact. The concern was amplified by the fact that Joel's beloved dogs were found unattended at his home, something his mother said was highly out of character for him. His mother had last seen him on August 25th after he spent the night at her house; her subsequent calls and texts to him went unanswered. The situation grew more alarming when Joel, an avid fan of the band Phish, missed a concert in Denver, Colorado, for which he had already purchased tickets. This, combined with no activity on his credit cards, intensified the fears of his loved ones. The friend who allegedly dropped him off in Rochester was reportedly unable to recall the exact location and provided an account that the family found unreliable.
