Andre Julian Moten Jr., a 22-year-old Black man known to those close to him as “Dre,” was last seen during the early morning hours of October 18, 2019, in Humble, Texas. Andre lived with his father near Timber Forest Drive in the Atascocita area of Harris County. According to accounts later provided by his family, Andre received a telephone call from a friend at approximately 2:00 a.m. and then left the residence.
Some reports indicate that he departed on foot and left his vehicle behind, while another account suggests someone may have picked him up. What is consistently reported is that Andre never returned home, did not contact his relatives afterward, and seemingly vanished without leaving his family any clear explanation of where he had gone or what had happened to him. He was reportedly wearing a black shirt and blue jeans when he disappeared, although a Texas Department of Public Safety bulletin noted that his clothing and possible destination could not be confirmed.
As the hours passed, the circumstances surrounding Andre’s disappearance became increasingly troubling. Later that day, before his father fully understood that Andre was missing, two of Andre’s childhood friends reportedly arrived at the residence in a distressed and panicked state. According to Andre’s father, they began talking about reporting him missing and urged that the surrounding woods be searched. One of the friends reportedly looked through Andre’s vehicle, searched in a wooded area and asked about obtaining surveillance footage from the leasing office. Andre’s father was left deeply unsettled by their behavior because Andre had not yet been formally reported missing and the friends did not clearly explain why they already believed something was wrong. The family was also told that Andre may have been with a woman, but no woman was reportedly seen by those who spoke publicly about the case. Authorities questioned people connected to Andre and reportedly administered polygraph examinations to some of his friends, but Andre’s family said investigators continued to tell them that there were no substantial leads explaining where he went.
Andre was a college student, one of six siblings and someone his father described as a loving brother who enjoyed playing basketball. His family said he had never been in serious trouble with the law, making his abrupt disappearance even more difficult for them to understand. He stood approximately six feet two inches tall and weighed between 162 and 180 pounds, with black hair that was styled in twisted dreadlocks and brown eyes. Andre had a scar near his right eyebrow and several prominent tattoos. A large black-and-gray design covered portions of his upper chest and left arm and included the name “Julian,” clouds, a dove, a Highway 59 symbol, the Bible verse Romans 8:28 and a rose containing red and green coloring. These distinctive features have remained important identifying details as his family and investigators have continued seeking information.
The years without answers have placed a profound emotional burden on Andre’s loved ones. His father has publicly described continuing to hope that Andre will come through the door again, even as other relatives have struggled with the possibility that he may no longer be alive. No verified sighting, confirmed communication or publicly announced discovery has explained what happened after Andre left home. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is listed as the investigating agency, and Andre’s case remains unresolved.
