Vilate Kerreen Young, a 15-month-old toddler, disappeared on July 4, 1956, during a family picnic at her maternal grandfather's ranch, the Newell Steed Ranch, near Widtsoe, Utah. Vilate and her family, originally from Monteview, Idaho, had traveled to the ranch to celebrate Independence Day. While at the picnic, Vilate was last seen watching a relative churn ice cream near one of the farm's outbuildings. Shortly after, she wandered away and was never seen again.
