Diana Lynn Avera, a 22-year-old woman, was last seen on May 28, 1982, in Mount Vernon, Alabama. At the time, she was a resident at Searcy Hospital, a state psychiatric facility in the area. On the day of her disappearance, Diana was reportedly on a supervised outing from the hospital when she went missing. Her absence went unnoticed for several hours, delaying the start of the search efforts.
