In the spring of 1983, Alan Douglas Livingston, a 25-year-old employee of the Goodyear tire plant, was living his life in Rainbow City, Alabama. Originally from Ohio, he had settled into his job and community. On April 13, 1983, he visited a friend at the Forest River Apartments in Gadsden, driving his brown 1980 Ford Bronco.
