On September 30, 1984, a then 26-year-old David A. Miller, Jr. was aboard the 48-foot wooden fishing vessel, the *Curlew*, in the waters off Kodiak, Alaska. The vessel was in the area of the southeast tip of Atkins Island, near Koniuju Island, attempting to assist another vessel, the *Kelly Ann*, which was experiencing engine trouble. During this effort to aid the other boat, the *Curlew* foundered and ultimately sank. At the time of his disappearance, David was approximately 6 feet tall, weighed 185 pounds, and had brown hair and brown eyes. He had distinctive scars above his right eye and on his chin. Traveling with David Miller on the *Curlew* were brothers Geoffrey and Philip Odonoghue. Following the sinking of the vessel, all three men were reported missing. One individual from the *Curlew*, identified as Ray Miller, was successfully rescued by the crew of the *Kelly Ann*. The crew of the *Kelly Ann* cut the towline as the *Curlew* was foundering, managed to start their own engine, and avoided the nearby rocks, which allowed them to rescue the one survivor. Despite search efforts, David Miller and the Odonoghue brothers were never found. The case of David Miller is being handled by the Alaska State Troopers. Due to the circumstances of the boating accident and the fact that they were never located, David Miller, Geoffrey Odonoghue, and Philip Odonoghue are all presumed to be deceased. The incident is a somber reminder of the perils of the sea, particularly in the challenging waters of Alaska. The loss of the three men aboard the *Curlew* serves as a tragic event in the maritime history of the region.
