On September 30, 1984, 18-year-old Geoffrey Odonoghue was the victim of a boating accident off the southeast tip of Atkins Island near Koniuju Island in Alaska. He, along with Philip Odonoghue, age 22, and David Miller Jr., are all presumed to have died in the incident.
The three were aboard the 48-foot wooden fishing vessel, the Curlew, which sank while trying to aid another fishing vessel, the Kelly Ann, in the Shumagin Islands.
The Curlew was in the process of towing the Kelly Ann when it began to take on water. The crew of the Kelly Ann was forced to cut the towline as the Curlew foundered. They were able to start their own engine and avoid the nearby rocks, and also managed to rescue one person from the sinking Curlew.
Geoffrey Odonoghue, Philip Odonoghue, and David Miller of Kodiak were lost in the accident. All three are presumed to be deceased. The case is managed by the Alaska State Troopers.Last Seen: Sep 30, 1984
