In the late summer of 1988, a journey with an intended destination of Canadian, Oklahoma, marked the beginning of a long and bewildering mystery for the family of Mary Frances Mestas. On August 11, the 33-year-old female departed from Dallas, Texas, heading towards the small Pittsburg County town.
