Arnold Joseph Epel, 25, was last seen in Miami, Florida, on or around January 19, 1989. The exact date of his disappearance is uncertain by a day or two. Epel, also known as Joe or Joey, left a note for his family with instructions on how to handle his belongings and property, in which he also indicated he planned to take his own life. He was approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 165 pounds at the time he went missing.
He had brown hair, brown eyes, and a slight curvature of the spine similar to scoliosis. It is believed he may have had a firearm and a Sony Walkman with him.
Epel was reportedly wearing a light-colored shirt and dark-colored pants when he was last seen. His blue 1987 Acura Integra, with Florida license plate number 698KCT, was later found abandoned in Glades County. The vehicle was located on Okeechobee Road just south of the Highlands County line.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office is the investigating agency for this case. Over the years, DNA samples have been collected from his mother and sister and entered into the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification's database to aid in the investigation.
