On March 22, 1990, 22-year-old Matthew Jay Schneider was serving as a crewman aboard the 162-foot fishing trawler, the Aleutian Enterprise, in the Bering Sea. The vessel, operated by Arctic Alaska Fisheries, was located approximately 60 miles south of St. Paul Island when it capsized and sank. Schneider, along with eight other crew members, was lost in the incident. Twenty-two of the 31 people on board were rescued by nearby vessels.
