Lee Herman Wackerhagen Jr., aged 40, disappeared on December 26, 1993, from Lockhart, Texas, along with his 9-year-old son, Chance. The disappearance occurred under suspicious circumstances following the murder of Wackerhagen's live-in girlfriend, Latricia White. White was found shot six times in her Lockhart home the day after Wackerhagen and his son were last seen. Investigators initially believed that Lee might have been responsible for White's death and had fled with his son.
However, this theory was later reconsidered.
On the evening of December 26, Wackerhagen and his son were seen at a restaurant, appearing to enjoy themselves. The following day, White’s father discovered her body in the home she shared with Wackerhagen. Evidence at the scene, including Chance’s bloody footprint, indicated that the child had been present during or shortly after the murder. Wackerhagen’s truck was found abandoned days later in Austin, Texas, with some of their belongings, including Christmas gifts stained with blood that did not match White’s. Despite extensive searches and investigations, neither Wackerhagen nor his son has been found.
Over time, authorities have shifted their focus, believing that both Lee and Chance may have also been victims of foul play. The case was reopened in 2016, and investigators now consider Wackerhagen a missing person and potential homicide victim rather than a fugitive.
