Israel Salazar Gonzalez, a 29-year-old man, went missing on March 20, 2008, while attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border near Falfurrias, Texas. He had been traveling with a group of migrants from Reynosa when he experienced a severe knee injury that left him unable to walk. The group was forced to leave him behind approximately 30 miles from Falfurrias, near a road. A shirt or sweater was placed under a tree to mark the location where he was left.
