Prior to his disappearance, Gomez was facing charges related to the July 17, 2009, shooting of Thomas Pfaeffle, a Seattle-based sound engineer. The incident occurred at a motel in Twisp, Washington, where Pfaeffle mistakenly attempted to enter the wrong room, leading to a confrontation in which Gomez allegedly shot him.
