Breck McDowell Phelps, aged 68, was last seen on October 1, 2016, while on a fishing trip near Donnell Vista Point in Tuolumne County, California. Phelps had gone fishing on the Stanislaus River, a spot he was familiar with. However, he did not return home as expected. His car, a 2007 Nissan Versa, was later found parked along Highway 108, about a quarter of a mile from the Donnell Vista Point parking area. This location was near a trail that he had used previously for fishing trips.
Search teams, including ground and aerial units, conducted an extensive four-day search of the surrounding area, but no trace of Phelps was found. His phone had been turned off, complicating efforts to track his movements. Despite the efforts of law enforcement and search teams, no significant leads emerged, and his case remains unsolved.
Donnell Vista Point, where Phelps went missing, is known for its rugged terrain, and his disappearance is one of several that have occurred in the area over the years. The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the case and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
