In the summer of 2019, concern began to grow for 62-year-old Ricky Lynn Benton in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A military veteran, Ricky was known to be diligent about his health appointments, so when he missed a scheduled visit at the V.A. in July, those who knew him felt something was amiss. The exact date of his disappearance remains uncertain, but he has not been seen or heard from since sometime in that month. This marked the beginning of a prolonged and troubling absence for the man who was an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. Ricky resided on Northwest 8th Street in Oklahoma City, where he lived with his dogs, to whom he was very attached. When family members went to check on him after he missed his appointment, they were met with a scene that amplified their worries. Inside his home, all of his personal belongings were untouched, and, most uncharacteristically, his beloved dogs had been left behind. This detail was particularly alarming to his family, as it suggested that his departure was not planned. Ricky, who is diabetic and has an amputated leg for which he uses a prosthetic, would not have willingly left his cherished pets or his necessary medical equipment. He was described as having black hair, green eyes, and often wore wire-framed glasses. The investigation into Ricky's disappearance was opened by the Oklahoma City Police Department, but years later, his case remains unsolved with few available details. His family and community have been left without answers, holding onto hope for some resolution. The circumstances surrounding his vanishing are a source of ongoing pain and uncertainty for those who know him. The fact that a military veteran with known health conditions and a deep attachment to his pets could disappear so completely from his own home is a deeply unsettling reality. His case is a somber reminder of the many individuals who go missing, leaving behind questions and a void in the lives of their loved ones.
