On a summer morning in Queens, New York, 16-year-old Yu Ting Lin left her home in the Elmhurst neighborhood on July 15, 2019. The day was seemingly ordinary, as she headed off to attend summer school classes at the Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology. Standing at five feet, eight inches tall with black hair, the Asian teenager embarked on a day that would end with her loved ones facing a period of uncertainty and concern.

The timeline of Yu Ting's day adds a layer of complexity to her disappearance. After leaving for school at around 7:30 in the morning, the day progressed without any known incident. Later that evening, at approximately 7:00 PM, a witness had a telephone conversation with Yu Ting. During the call, she reportedly stated that she was at home. However, as the hours stretched into the early morning of the next day, it became distressingly clear that she had not returned. By 2:30 AM on July 16, her absence prompted her family to take action, and she was reported as a missing person to the New York City Police Department.

The initial investigation into Yu Ting's whereabouts began swiftly. The New York City Police Department's Missing Persons Squad was assigned to the case and immediately conducted a search of her residence, which yielded no clues. Officers also canvassed the neighborhood, speaking with people and searching for any information that might lead to her location, but this too proved unsuccessful. The details of her disappearance, particularly the evening phone call where she claimed to be home when she apparently was not, created a perplexing situation for investigators. Since that day in 2019, efforts to find her have continued, leaving her family waiting for answers.
