In the summer of 2019, a 23-year-old woman named Khiara Henry from San Diego, California, embarked on a solo vacation to Maui, Hawaii. She arrived on the island and checked into her hotel in Kihei. An adventurous spirit who enjoyed hiking, she spent the next couple of days exploring the island's natural beauty, taking guided tours of waterfalls and the rainforest.
