In the small community of Vivian, Louisiana, the disappearance of Dorthy "Dottie" Allen Yates-McCathran has left her family with years of unanswered questions. On January 21, 2020, the 40-year-old mother of two vanished from her home in the 10000 block of Vivian Airport Road. Her husband was the last to report seeing her, stating he left for a couple of hours to look at a job and returned to an empty house. The scene he reportedly discovered was unsettling; okra was still cooking on the stove, and a television remote was partially melted on a woodstove that had plastic and other items burning inside. Crucially, Dorthy's purse and driver's license were left behind, items a person would typically take if they planned to leave. Her own vehicle was not working at the time, suggesting she either left on foot or was picked up by someone. The hours leading up to her disappearance paint a picture of a woman in distress. Dorthy had a tearful phone conversation with a friend that day, revealing she had been fighting with her husband and felt a desperate need to get away. During that same call, another person reportedly entered the room, and Dorthy's tone of voice suddenly normalized as she greeted them. She also spoke with her young daughter, initially upset that she couldn't see her on her birthday but then expressing excitement for the upcoming birthday party later that week. It was a party she would never attend. Her failure to show up was deeply uncharacteristic and amplified her family's fears, prompting them to officially report her missing. In the years since Dorthy McCathran was last seen, the investigation has been marked by strange clues and a painful lack of progress. An early search of the five-acre property where she lived uncovered some of her personal belongings, including jewelry, a hat, and a scarf, in a nearby wooded area. A few months after she vanished, in April 2020, a mysterious person left a newspaper clipping about her case, with handwritten notes and maps on it, at a business in Vivian. Despite public pleas from law enforcement, this individual has never come forward to explain their findings. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office continues to seek any new information or leads that could help resolve the case. The case remains an active and open investigation, a painful limbo for a family seeking closure and the community that remembers her.
