John Dax Dunn, a 40-year-old former Marine and aircraft mechanic from Newnan, Georgia, disappeared in February 2020 after telling his family he was going on a solo four-day fishing trip. On February 13, 2020, he was last seen at his home around 4:30 p.m. His family and friends have not heard from him since his departure. This behavior was described as being entirely out of character for Dunn, who was a father of four and had been employed at the same job for 17 years without ever missing a day of work. His family grew concerned when he failed to show up for work after his planned trip and reported him missing to the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation into Dunn's disappearance revealed a trail of his activities in Florida. His bank card was used on February 14 in Midway, Florida, and again on February 15 at a Circle K convenience store in Inglis, where he purchased energy drinks, snacks, and gasoline. That same day, he rented a motel room in Inglis. On February 17, Dunn rented a 10.5-foot-long, lime green kayak and a life vest from a rental service in Crystal River, which were never returned. There has been no activity on his phone, bank accounts, or social media since February 15, 2020.
On March 3, 2020, Dunn's 2013 white Nissan Frontier was discovered partially hidden in a wooded area near a boat ramp in the Inglis/Yankeetown area of Florida. The truck was locked, and inside were his fishing gear, a travel bag with clothes, and a cooler. However, the keys, his wallet, a pistol, and a spear gun were missing. An extensive search of the area was conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies, utilizing helicopters, boats, and ground searches, but no trace of Dunn was found. The location where his truck was found had been checked by deputies just days before its discovery, suggesting it had been moved there recently. The circumstances surrounding John Dax Dunn's disappearance remain a mystery, and his case is still considered an active missing person investigation.
