On a day in late September of 2020, 37-year-old Brendon Allen Nepon and his dog, Sita, set out for a hike at the Snow Lake trailhead in Snoqualmie Pass, Washington. This would be the last time anyone would see the male hiker and his companion. Brendon, described as a white male with brown hair and brown eyes, stood at approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed around 170 pounds. He had long hair that he typically wore in a bun and wore glasses.
His vehicle was later discovered at the trailhead, but there was no sign of Brendon or his dog. The pair were thought to possibly be heading towards Gem Lake, a trek known for its challenging and steep terrain.
Brendon's mother reported him missing on Monday, September 28, 2020, which triggered an immediate and extensive search and rescue operation. Over a period of six days, a team of 366 search and rescue volunteers invested around 2,000 hours combing the rugged landscape for any sign of Brendon or Sita. Despite their exhaustive efforts, no clues to their whereabouts were found. The search was made even more difficult by dangerous conditions, including cliffs and unpredictable weather in the vast 80-square-mile search area. Search and rescue teams from Chelan County also assisted the King County-led efforts.
Ultimately, due to the hazardous conditions and the lack of any leads, the official search for Brendon Nepon and his dog was suspended. Authorities stated that the search could resume if any new information were to come to light. The disappearance of Brendon and Sita remains a painful mystery for family and friends.
