Sam Dubal, a 33-year-old University of Washington anthropology professor, went missing on October 9, 2020, while hiking solo in Mount Rainier National Park. He set out to hike the Mother Mountain Loop from the Mowich Lake Trailhead and was expected to return the following day. When he did not come back, a search was initiated on October 12. Despite being a skilled and experienced hiker equipped with proper gear for overnight camping, Dubal vanished without a trace.
