Brian Thomas Vargo, a 20-year-old University of Texas at Austin student, was last seen on March 9, 1976. Vargo, who had been struggling academically, withdrew from his classes that day without informing his family. He reportedly told friends he was heading to Colorado to work at a dude ranch and was last known to be driving a white Mazda RX2. His car broke down in Colorado, and he returned to Houston to collect the vehicle's title, intending to sell it.
After his mother dropped him off at a bus station in Katy, Texas, Vargo was never seen again.
When his family later checked his Austin apartment, they found his wallet and belongings, but no trace of Brian. His disappearance was not reported until 2021, nearly 45 years later, when his family realized he had not attended classes or returned home as they had initially expected.
