Laurent Abecassis, a 45-year-old experienced pilot, went missing on December 27, 1994, after renting a single-engine Piper Warrior airplane from Boca Aviation in Boca Raton, Florida. He told his wife he had to handle some quick business at the airport but didn't mention that he needed to take a flight to maintain his commercial flying license. Laurent planned to perform several touch-and-go landings as required for his pilot certification and left at 1:35 p.m. on his short trip. However, he never returned.

Despite extensive searches over both land and sea, neither Laurent nor the aircraft was ever found. The airplane had enough fuel for a four-hour flight, but no distress signals or emergency locator transmitter activations were detected. Laurent had relocated from France to the U.S. four years earlier and was in the process of pursuing a career as a commercial pilot or flight instructor. His disappearance remains an enduring aviation mystery, and no further clues have emerged to solve the case.
