Kaya Centeno, 8 years old at the time, went missing from Rohnert Park, California, around March 1, 2011. Her disappearance only came to light years later, in 2020, during an investigation into allegations of abuse involving her younger siblings. Kaya had been withdrawn from her second-grade class at John Reed Elementary School during the 2010-2011 school year, purportedly to be homeschooled.
However, after allegations of severe abuse surfaced against her adoptive parents, Gina and Jose Centeno, it was revealed by her siblings that Kaya had not been seen for eight to ten years.
The case gained attention after the two younger siblings, placed in protective custody in Mexico, informed investigators that their sister had gone missing years earlier. The authorities suspect Kaya may have been a victim of abuse, but no charges have been filed directly related to her disappearance, and her whereabouts remain unknown.
