In the late summer of 2019, a 30-year-old man named Steven Paul McEwen vanished from the small borough of McDonald, Pennsylvania. His last confirmed sighting was on or about August 26, 2019. Steven, known to some by the nickname 'Polar Bear,' was a distinctive individual with shoulder-length red hair, a red beard, and blue eyes. His pale skin was marked with freckles on his face. He had a couple of notable tattoos: the Serenity Prayer on his left forearm and a yellow banana on his calf just below his right knee. At the time of his disappearance, he was facing significant personal challenges, having recently lost his job, which led to him becoming homeless and living in a tent in the woods in the McDonald area.
