Christopher Butler, a 45-year-old man from Crawfordville, Florida, went missing on August 26, 2021, during a boating trip near the St. Marks Lighthouse. He had been scalloping with a friend when a storm caused their boat to drift away. While his friend managed to reach shore, Butler was separated from the boat and did not make it back. Despite an extensive search effort involving multiple agencies, including the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife, and the U.S.
Coast Guard, the search was terminated without locating Butler.
The search, which spanned several days, involved both aerial and ground teams. Friends and local boating enthusiasts also participated in trying to locate Butler, but to no avail. The search officially ended in early September 2021, though the missing person investigation remains active.
