On September 29, 2021, 23-year-old Nicholas 'Nick' Smyre was seen for the last time leaving his family’s residence in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was in the company of an unidentified man described as being in his early 20s with dark hair and a tan or olive complexion. The two departed in what was believed to be an early 2000s silver or grey Honda Civic or a similar type of car.
Nick, a quiet and reserved individual, was known for his love of gaming, including Dungeons & Dragons and various online games. Described as being six feet tall and weighing between 125 and 135 pounds, he had long brown hair parted on the side, a beard, and a mustache. At the time of his disappearance, he may have been wearing tan work boots, blue jeans, and a black or grey zip-up hoodie.
The days following his departure raised immediate concern among his family and friends. It was highly uncharacteristic for Nick to be out of touch, and alarm grew when he failed to show up for his job at a local Michaels Craft Store on September 30th and October 1st without any notification. The last known activity from his cell phone was a 'ping' in the Carlisle, Pennsylvania, area on the afternoon of October 1, 2021. A particularly unsettling detail emerged when it was discovered that one of the last messages he sent was to a close friend via Discord, containing his passwords for his computer and other online accounts. His family, emphasizing that this behavior was completely out of character, initiated a search, desperate for any information regarding his whereabouts and safety.
The search for Nicholas Smyre stretched on for what would become a period of 1,625 days. Tragically, the painful uncertainty came to a close when Nicholas was found deceased on March 12, 2026. An obituary celebrating his life described him as having a kind heart, being sweet, caring, and always willing to help others. It fondly remembered his witty sense of humor and a laugh that brought smiles to those around him. A graduate of ELCO High School, Nick's curiosity and determination drove him to teach himself about his many interests, which included gaming, computers, art, and music.
