In the late spring of 1999, a sense of unease began to settle over those who knew Alfredo Gallardo Delapena. A 41-year-old man living and working in the Hermiston, Oregon area, Alfredo was a familiar presence to his employer and acquaintances. On May 30th, 1999, he was last seen in a yellow, late-model Ford pickup truck. His disappearance, however, would not become apparent until a very specific and telling event failed to occur – he did not arrive to collect his paycheck. This uncharacteristic absence was the first sign to his employer that something was amiss, prompting a report to be filed with the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office. As the days turned into weeks, and with no word from Alfredo, the concern within the community grew. The Umatilla County Sheriff's Office opened an investigation into his disappearance, case number 99C0781. Details about his last known movements were sparse. He was known to be a male of American Indian or Alaska Native descent, standing approximately six feet tall and weighing around 170 pounds. Unfortunately, descriptions of his hair and eye color were not available, leaving a void in the physical descriptors that could aid in his identification. The primary clue in his disappearance was the vehicle he was last seen in, the yellow Ford pickup, but this lead, like others, did not immediately yield answers. The investigation into Alfredo Gallardo Delapena's whereabouts has spanned decades, yet the circumstances surrounding his vanishing remain shrouded in mystery. With no one having reported seeing or hearing from him since that spring day in 1999, his case has grown cold. His employer's initial report, sparked by a missed paycheck, set in motion a search that has yet to reach a conclusion. The lack of resolution leaves a lingering sense of uncertainty for his community and the investigators who have handled his case. The overview of this case is one of a sudden and unexplained disappearance, where a man in the prime of his life seemingly vanished without a trace, leaving behind only questions and the faint memory of his last known sighting in a yellow pickup truck.
