Enrique Garibay Ruiz, a 51-year-old nuclear physicist, mathematician, and professor, went missing on October 5, 2017, in Los Angeles, California. Originally from Mexico, Garibay Ruiz had lived in Hungary with his wife and two children. He arrived in Los Angeles on September 25, 2017, for a vacation, staying at the Melrose Hostel in Hollywood. He was last seen driving away from the hostel around 1:00 p.m. in a rented gray 2017 Toyota RAV4.
He spoke to his wife that day, mentioning he was on standby for a return flight to Budapest, but he never returned the rental car or boarded the flight.
The last known use of his credit card was on October 6 at a Carl's Jr. restaurant, and no further signs of him have surfaced. His family reported him missing on October 9 when he failed to return home.
