The last communication his family had with him was a WhatsApp message from the town of Guerrero, stating he was waiting for sunrise to cross. He was last seen in Eagle Pass, Texas, on March 20, 2022. Carlos is a Hispanic male with black hair, green eyes, stands between 5'7" and 5'8" tall, and weighs approximately 175 pounds. He has several distinct tattoos, including intertwined branches on his neck, a lion on his right arm, and a tiger on his left arm, as well as scars on both hands from work. He was reportedly wearing blue-washed jeans, a camouflage shirt, a black belt, a jacket with a black interior and gray-toned camouflage print on the outside, and blue velvet Supra tennis shoes with white soles. He also had a nose piercing. The circumstances surrounding Carlos's disappearance are distressing. His family was informed by the coyote, or human smuggler, who was supposed to guide him across the border that Carlos had been left unconscious in the desert of Maverick County, Texas, on March 20th. The coyote even provided coordinates to his supposed location. Acting on this information, Carlos's uncle, Marco Velázquez, traveled to Texas to initiate a search. However, U.S. Border Patrol prevented him from accessing the specified area, citing it as private property. A day later, authorities reported they had searched the location and found Carlos's credentials, wallet, and cell phone, which were then turned over to the Maverick County Sheriff's Department. Tragically, there was no sign of Carlos himself. The family's quest for answers has been fraught with challenges and a sense of helplessness. They have faced jurisdictional issues, with authorities in Coahuila initially stating they could not file a missing person report because the disappearance occurred on American soil. The family has expressed frustration with the response from the Mexican Consulate in Eagle Pass, Texas, feeling that their concerns were not taken seriously.
