Frances Collett Apperson, a 67-year-old woman, was reported missing on May 17, 2022, after she failed to arrive for a scheduled hike with family members in the Linville Gorge area of North Carolina. Frances was last seen at the Banner Elk Cafe around 3:44 PM that day. She had intended to hike at Hawksbill Mountain but never showed up to meet her relatives.
