In the summer of 2022, a young woman named Kayonna Manuel vanished from Decatur, Georgia, leaving her family searching for answers. The last known day she was in contact with anyone was July 11, 2022. On that day, the 20-year-old had been at Emory North Decatur Hospital. After her release, she spoke with her grandmother, telling her she intended to walk to the Avondale MARTA station. This was the last direct communication her grandmother would have with her.
