In the summer of 2022, a sense of unease settled over a family in Cumberland County, Tennessee, when 33-year-old Cody Andrew Ramsey / Dearing vanished. His last known contact was on August 3, 2022, from Rockwood, Tennessee. Cody, who worked at the Greenwave Truck Stop in Westel, was a familiar face in the community. His family grew increasingly worried as days turned into weeks with no word from him. He was a man with distinct tattoos: 'Shane and Cody' on his left arm, 'Nora' on his right, and a large anchor with the name 'Shane' on his right rib cage. Concerns for his well-being mounted, prompting an official missing person report and the beginning of a long and painful period of uncertainty for his loved ones.
The search for Cody was an arduous one, with his family holding onto a sliver of hope that he might one day return. They described him as a caring individual who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. His twin sister and brother recalled how he would call them daily just to make sure they had eaten. The mystery of his disappearance was a heavy burden, leaving them with countless unanswered questions. He had reportedly told someone he was going to meet a friend before he went missing and was never heard from again. The investigation continued for over two and a half years, a time filled with anguish and the desperate hope for a resolution.
Tragically, the search came to a devastating end in early 2025. On February 8, skeletal remains were discovered in an area near Westel Road, close to the entrance of the Mount Roosevelt Wildlife Management Area. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, worked to identify the remains. Through DNA testing, it was confirmed with 99.99% certainty that the remains belonged to Cody Dearing. The discovery brought a painful conclusion to his family's search, confirming their worst fears. While the identification brought a sense of closure, it also opened a new chapter of grief and the pursuit of justice. The cause of his death has not been publicly released, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continues. His family is now left to mourn their loss while hoping for answers that might explain what happened to their beloved brother.
