In the summer of 2015, a family's life was forever changed by the disappearance of 23-year-old Curtis Andrew Jasper Wilson. A man from Lethbridge, Alberta, he was last seen in the Okanagan region of British Columbia on June 27, 2015. Curtis, a young man with a close relationship with his family, had traveled to the area in a black Chrysler 200 rental car. His family was unaware of his travel plans to Vernon, as he had initially told them he was going to Grande Prairie. The last time anyone is known to have seen Curtis was on the morning of June 27th, when he was having breakfast in Vernon with a friend and his traveling companion, 32-year-old Shane Letkeman, who was also from Lethbridge.

The search for Curtis began after his family grew concerned when he failed to make his regular calls home. Their fears were amplified when the rental car he was driving was found abandoned in the Cosens Bay area of Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park in Coldstream. The situation took a devastating turn when, on June 28, 2015, Shane Letkeman's body was discovered in Kalamalka Lake. Authorities stated that Letkeman's death was not suspicious. This discovery led to an extensive search of the lake and surrounding area for Curtis, involving ground, air, and water crews, including sonar searches. Despite these efforts, and the belief by investigators that he was in the water, Curtis has never been found.

A subsequent coroner's report into Shane Letkeman's death concluded that it was a suicide and part of a planned pact between the two men. This conclusion was reportedly based on messages found on a cell phone that alluded to suicide. However, Curtis's family, particularly his sister Shanna, has publicly questioned this theory, stating they did not receive any such messages from him and that a message sent to his girlfriend could be interpreted differently. They have pointed out the difficulty in making such a determination without having located Curtis. The years since his disappearance have been filled with unanswered questions for the Wilson family, who continue to hold out hope for closure and have made numerous trips to the Okanagan to search for him. The case remains a painful mystery, a story of a young man who vanished, leaving behind a family searching for answers in the waters of Kalamalka Lake.
