Robert Rudish and Lee Vrba arrived in Island Lake Manitoba on June 11, 1972, to fish. On June 17, RCMP received a report that a canoe was found overturned in the water. The canoe was soon identified as belonging to Lee. RCMP Investigators surmised the men went missing on either the Thursday or the Friday. The weather on both days was extreme, with high winds gusting to 30 mph, which caused the lake to be quite rough. Neither of the two men have been located and it is presumed both drowned.
