On May 7, 1968, Bernice Redhead and her family were travelling on a dog sled led by their grandfather. The group was travelling on Gods River, Shamattawa, Manitoba, when they broke through the ice. All the passengers fell into the water. The grandfather managed to pull everyone to safety, except for Bernice, who was swept away by the river's fast-moving current. She has not been found to this day.
