On March 12, 1983, Samuel Amos Quatell was reported missing from the fishing vessel “ISE II”, near Steep Island, BC. Steep Island is located near Seymour Narrows; between Quadra Island and Campbell River, BC. Samuel was last seen near the rear of the vessel, by the ship’s crew. An extensive search failed to locate Samuel. The tidal currents near the island are extremely strong and any person in the water could travel a great distance in a short period of time.
